Some weekends it doesn't pay to crawl out of bed

09.02.07 | Comment?

God…this weekend…if there was a thunderstorm I'd likely have been hit by lightning. :-/

Saturday I decided was a good time to take my bike out and run some errands. First I met up with Dan, then headed over to the Ace Hardware store to pick up some household things. On the way back I completely ate shit off my bike, for what reason I have no idea. The bike simply wiped out from under me and I tucked and rolled across the sidewalk. I think it had to do with the fact that I tried unsuccessfully to secure the new bike lock I had to replace I because I lost my old bike lock's keys. FOr some reason I couldn't get the damn lock to stop swinging all over the place. I ended up ruining the bike chain and having to get it replaced for like $50 :-(

Today, I somehow managed to lock myself out of my new home.

Twice.

First time I took a zipcar over to Bed Bath and Beyond. You see, I had to get a new curtain rod for my bedroom drapes, and I lost the original supports. I have no idea where they went (you seeing the theme here now??), so I ran over to BB&B and somehow on the way there or back, my keys completely disappeared.

I get back to the apartment…can't find them in the car. I have to reserve the car AGAIN and head back over to BB&B…they haven't seen them and they're nowhere around the store. I head BACK to the house and get a call from Zipcar “Sir, your car is late in getting returned (by, quite literally, 5 minutes)”. Apparently the woman waiting for the car called to complain the minute she arrived and it wasn't there, causing me to get charged a $50 late fee. Then she goes on complaining how SHE got one HERSELF. I basically brushed her off in irritation as I had more shit to worry about than that.

I get back to the apartment and I try contacting any of the association members who MIGHT have a spare. It's Labor Day weekend…nobody's here. I try calling a locksmith…I either get NO response or they tell me they're going to call me back yet never do.

Finally one of the association members just happened to be returning to the building and luckily, just happened to have some spares on hand for me to unlock the door. This become about 7pm. I'm completely late for 's birthday…I have to study as I spent much of the weekend at parties or helping move.

*sigh*

So THEN, I'm trying to put up the curtain rod and find out I GOT THE WRONG SIZE. GARRRRRRR!!!! AFTER I put all the brackets up. So I'm pretty upset, and I decide, “fuck it” and order a pizza from “The Art of Pizza” (HIGHLY recommended by the way).

I go downstairs to pick up the pizza when they come by since I'm not in the security directory yet (primarily because a) I can't seem to get in contact with the president of our association and b) I have vonage, which requires I have internet access…which I didn't till Saturday, as detailed before). I get back to my door.

And the fucking thing's locked.

AGAIN.

ARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHH!!!

So I go hunting for association members again, but nobody's here. I'm sitting here with a pizza going cold. In desperation, I pull out an old Starbucks card and start to jimmy the lock.

Five minutes later I'm in the apartment. So…one moral of the story is don't ever think your home is secure just by locking the doorknob. Make sure you lock your deadbolt too.

And the other one? I'd suggest standing at least 10-20 feet away from me. I won't be held responsible for any personal or property damage within my vicinity. ;-(

Oh, and somehow I managed to take two practice tests this weekend and did shitty on BOTH. FUCK.
