Eyerolls from various friends aside, I've just finished putting up the other detolf shelf I purchased at Ikea and displayed all the toys I've accumulated over the years, including my Takara Japanese import reissues Transformers.
Takara, the original manufacturer in Japan, decided a couple years back to reissue a bunch of the more popular Transformers with the same materials and set ups they had back in the day. So they're all die-cast metal and very handsomely created.
I've always loved the Transformer toys growing up, but I couldn't ever really afford many of them (I think I had one little one), as they were SO expensive. And getting the originals these days is insanely expensive (they're major collectors items now), so I've been purchasing these imports. They're on the pricey side as well, and I probably ruined all collector value for them by pulling them out of their boxes, but who cares. They look fucking cool in my cabinets:

Both cabinets in the spare room.

2nd shelf with some of my faves, Optimus Prime, Megatron, and others

3rd shelf down, with various smaller figures

Bottom shelf, with the big one actually consisting of 5 smaller Transformers that connect to make one huge one.
Of course, here are some of the newer additions in the other cabinet:

Marvel Zombies figures! GRRRR!!!
Finally put up the other class bookcase and pulled these out of their boxes for display:

tiiiiired of playinnnnng zeeee GAAAAME!
So yah, I’m sick. I feel crappy…my throat’s sore, my sinuses are a mess and I have this fatigue setting in that makes it all even worse.
What does one do while they’re sick? Well, one goes internet window shopping, of course. I found this statue series I just now fell in love with: The Dark Phoenix Saga (Click here for high res version:

It appears these came out about two years ago…but the set has some of my favorite characters, mainly Nightcrawler and Colossus. Hmmm..Colossus…I think I might know what my Halloween costume next year might be
At any rate, I really do dig these but they’re very expensive, so I guess I’m gonna just have to go for the cheaper stuff, mainly the Super Hero Squad figures. I’ve found most of the ones I want, but still am missing Nightcrawler/Juggernaut and Beast/Iceman. I’ll probably eventually get the Fantastic Four ones as well, though I’m not as big a fan of that team. Anyway, these are so cute…with the smiling faces and big feet and hands. I’ve got a bunch of them now and the next wave comes in November with Storm, and Logan with a Motorcycle. These are the coolest little figures to come around in a very long time

The man has some new art prints up at his site. I’ve loved his stuff ever since I saw it at La Luz, and every time I’m there, I look at his original pieces hungrily. But at 2k a pop, I just can’t justify that expense
I love his work for some reason, particularly the halloween one above (which I might purchase). Anyway, check out his stuff and buy something, I really want this guy to be successful.
So I moved into a new loft apartment which gives me this huge blank slate of walls to put art up on. I wish I could afford the kind of stuff I love so much, but I guess it’s going to be a long term project filling those walls. Anyway, looking around for some art, I found I’ve fallen in love with the new movement “lowbrow” “newbrow” “Pop Surrealism” or whatever the hell you want to call it. Some of my new favorite artists include:
John Puglisi
Joe Sorren
Tim Biskup
Shag
Kozik
Dalek
Mark Ryden
Daniel Clowes
Mark Atomos Pilon
Gary Baseman
Alex Gross
Scott Musgrove
Marion Peck
Todd Schorr
Eric White
Seonna Hong
Original works are so expensive now for these folks…they range from at lesat $800 to many 10s of thousands of dollars (mainly for poster boy Mark Ryden). You can find a lot of their work by going to their websites, or going to gallery sites such as the following:
DVA Gallery
M Modern Gallery
DC Gallery
La Luz de Jesus Gallery
Copronason
