Interesting. Some things I like about the space, others (like that horrible grey marble tile in the bathroom) I hate. Anyway, they’re asking more for a smaller unit than mine was…so I guess it all works out.

I absolutely adore my new home. I love the area…I love the space. It's the most comfortable place I've lived in in a very LONG time. I'm SO happy there. I really do feel like, for the first time in my life, I'm home when I get there. ![]()
Weekend was all right. I chose not to go out Friday night, instead I stayed home to relax and prepare for my first GMAT prep class the next morning.
The prep class went all right, but man, i’ve gotta a lot of remedial math skills to recall. It’s funny how they all kind of flow right back though, so I’m hoping by test day I’ll be in pretty good shape.
I swear, if I took thie GMAT right out of college I’d have nailed it. *sigh* Ah well…
Afterwards I had an inspection on the new house. I have some worries having spent more time there just waiting for the inspector to finish. One, I definitely started to hear the train through the windows. I asked my realtor if he heard it, and of course he wants the sale, so he goes “Not really?” Uh huh. I only heard it like twice though, so it’s probably not as bad as I’d thought…of course I was RIGHT next to the window too and the way I’m going to set up the space has none of my furniture that close.
The other concern was, as I was walking towards N. Clark, I noticed a halfway house on the main street. People walking out of the place talking to themselves had me erally concerned that this wasn’t a great neighborhood to move to. But of course, I’m still learning what it’s like to be in a real city, where you’ll find crackhouses a block away from multimillion dollar homes.
Saturday afternoon/evening I spent putzing around the house. Honestly, I haven’t gotten my putz on in a long while. However, I knew that many of my coworkers were working this weekend and unfortunately it made me feel guilty for being at home while they were all at work. Frankly, there really wasn’t much for me to do since my boss decided to take control of my feature for those couple days. I guess I should have asked him to let me be involved so I can learn more, but I just felt kind of hurt and let down, and was in a pretty crap mood when I left Friday.
Today I headed out to meet with at his place so we could go see Harry Potter on IMAX. The movie was AWESOME. I thoroughly enjoyed it and didn’t think the 3D parts at the end were cheesy, which was a concern i had going in. At first we had pretty terrible seats as the venue sold out quickly, but pulled some strings with work to get us fantastic seats up at the top of the theater. We were both VERY happy with the experience.
After, it was off to Sidetrack to drink some slushies and sing some showtunes. was there (who, incidentally, has been an amazing source of advice and mentorship with my settling into Chicago, and I really appreciate that), as was several other of the Leather family. I drank a little more than I should, had a good time, settled my nerves and came back home to watch some TV, chill, and get ready for bed.
My ex-landlord’s an idiot.
He has the apartment I’m getting out of listed for $275k.
Point 1) he’s lying at about the square footage. It’s only 900 sq ft. And even if it was, he had it listed for $20 MORE per sq ft than that place would go for IF it was 1200 sq ft. As it is, he has it listed for $93 more according to Trulia. That seems to be an awful premium price for a place with a damaged floor, windows, refrigerator, rats, and filthy alley stuck between two buildings as “outdoor space.”
I also know he bought the place for 135k about 5 yrs ago outright. That’s an amazing profit if he can get it. I’m glad I decided not to purchase. ROFL!
Well, the papers are countersigned. No going back now! Everything is supposed to close by August 17th!
