So, my new red line stop is right next to a shop called Loehmann’s on Lake and State in downtown Chicago. On the way home tonight, I thought I’d stop in and see what kind of more professional looking jackets they may have. Generally, I wear my North Face jacket, which, though sporty, is not as upscale in “professional wear” as the rest of the folks in this new office.
My previous company, EA, well, it was acceptable to show up to work in a stained t-shirt and torn shorts. Yes, I’ve seen that there.
At any rate, I stopped by Loehmann’s to look at jackets and dress shirts (and maybe a cashmere v-neck if they had any for cheap, though that’s usually unlikely). Well, I found me a gorgeous Michael Kors navy blue peacoat, original retail $395.
I paid $95 for it.
So, yeah, now I have a really beautiful jacket that I can wear to work and not look like the new X-Treme Sportz dood interning from the local junior college.
Baby steps to looking more upscale every day. Next step is finding a nice pair of work shoes. I love my Kenneth Coles, but they hurt my feet something fierce. :-/
Thanks to everyone for the advice for work clothes. I actually stopped by a TJ Maxx, not expecting to find anything, and found DESIGNER brands! FOR CHEAP!
I was able to get a couple pair of Calvin Klein slacks (one a pair a sharp charcoal with pinstripes that I love), and a pair of Perry Ellis (haven’t bought anything from them in a long time…hmmm.) Also, found a hot CK dress shirt and a great looking Michael Kors paisley print shirt. I’m super-stylin now!
Next I’m off to Filenes Basement to find a more comfortable pair of dress shoes. I have a pair of Kenneth Coles that I absolutely love in patent leather, but they’re incredibly uncomfortable over time. That’s fine for interviews and such, but not for working in every day.
So thanks again everyone, I really appreciate it. I’m actually going to run over to Brown Elephant to see if I can find some cool vintage stuff, thanks for the advice! ![]()
