Iron Man & Speed Racer

I got the opportunity to see Iron Man Friday morning through my company, WMS gaming. They reserved a theater for us to view the film, and I must say it was absolutely terrific. Robery Downey Jr. makes an EXCELLENT Tony Stark and the movie was just filled with gadget porn. The plot was fairly light but full of action, as one would expect from a comics-themed flick. All in all, I’d say it’s in the top 3 of comic films (Batman Begins & X-Men 2 are in that list as well for me).

Saturday morning, my buddy David acquired sneak peek preview tickets for Speed Racer. I didn’t have high expectations for the movie, and since the tickets were free (won through a radio station contest), I decided to check it out.

WOW!

That was an excellent kids film with a lot to offer adult fans of the Speed Racer cartoon. Personally, I never really followed the cartoon itself, so I didn’t have any preconceived notions as to how the movie should be. At any rate, I’d say this was an EXCELLENT flick and anyone who’s a fan of animation, fast cars and fun action should definitely check this out. I’d say it’s the closest you’ll ever see a movie get to actual animation with actually BEING an animated film. Highly recommended! Check it out when it opens next weekend!

Best Picture

So I’ve seen every best picture nominee except for Michael Clayton (I’ll be watching that tomorrow) and this is how I rate them (in order, although I liked every one of them):

There Will Be Blood
Juno
Atonement (a nice surprise…not what I expected)
No Country for Old Men

I’m really hoping There Will Be Blood wins…that was just an amazing film with a stunning performance by Daniel Day Lewis.

I just got done watching it on Blu-Ray…it was a little birthday gift to myself.

I have to say…

AWESOME.

I can’t believe this movie got the scores it did on rotten tomatoes. It reminds me of what happened with the original Matrix came out and got very mixed reviews. I think you have to really be a fan of these kinds of films in order to truly appreciate them. Sure, there were some unlikely plot points, like…
Um, why were there NO military personnel guarding the civilians they locked in that room? And it’s hard to believe zombie-dad could get to those people so easily. That was one of the plot holes I found could have easily been cleaned up by having the zombie-dad attack soldiers guarding the citizens and turning them as well. Also, I find it VERY strange that they’d corral the civilians in a room and just lock them in there like that.

Otherwise, it was a very well-done, intense horror flick. My favorite! I highly recommend it if you’re a zombie or horror fan! Ignore the reviews…it RULES.

Crazy Coworkers

You know what these are? These are pix of the INSIDE of one of the Lamborghinis used for the Batman film shoot today. They’re all parked across the street, and one of my coworkers used his name badge to finagle his way onto the set and INTO one of these cars.

He just got shooed away…good thing for him LOL!

All the streets surrounding my office building are closed down for the film shoot today. Apparently, the new Lamborghini Murcielago is supposed to be in the film. Here’s a shot of the car Christian Bale is driving in the shoot.
