My name is Mary A. Kusiak and I was born outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I was raised in a very strict European household. My father is one hundred percent Polish and my mother is a combination of Pennsylvania Dutch and Cherokee Indian. When I was an infant, my parents moved our family to the beautiful Pocono Mountains where my sisters and I could grow up in a more peaceful setting.

I was an honor student in the public school system of Wallenpaupack Area School District. During my high school career, I was a member of the National Honor Society, the Track and Field Team (100M,200M,4x100M Relay and the Long Jump), the Concert Band, Marching Band and Stage Band (B flat Clarinet, First Chair), and I attended the All Eastern Band on the ContraBass Clarinet. I was a member of the Cheerleading Squad, Co-Captain of the Marching Band Rifle Squad, a member of the Science Olympiad Team and the Debate Team. I also competed in the annual Triathalon where I was First Place Ironwoman my junior and senior years.

I graduated sixth in my High School class and was chosen by Congressman Joseph McDade of the 10th Congressional District in Pennsylvania to receive a Four Year Air Force ROTC Academic Scholarship. I had received an appointment by Congressman McDade to attend West Point Military Academy, but was medically disqualified by DODMERB due to scoliosis, or curvature of the spine, for which I had worn a back brace for five years. They stated that they did not believe my body could take the physical demands required of an Academy.

I chose to enter Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, PA, a small private university, with the Air Force ROTC Scholarship and majored in Nursing. While in ROTC, I was awarded the most physically fit cadet all four years, I was made Wing Special Services Officer at Boot Camp where I led four hundred cadets in their morning workouts, I ran my fastest 1.5 mile run in 10:33 and I obtained a perfect score of 500 points on my military physical fitness tests for four years which entailed pushups, situps, pullups and 600 yard run within a timeline of 15 minutes. I met the male standards for fitness and exceeded the female standards.

I was accepted into Sigma Theta Tau, the National Nursing Honor Society, and the National English Honor Society. I graduated from Wilkes University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (Honors), a minor in Aerospace Studies, and a minor in English (Honors). On Graduation Day, I was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, received the pinning of my bars by my father and entered Active Duty Service.

Through my military career, I traveled to Edwards AFB CA, Langley AFB VA, West Point Military Academy NY, Air Force Academy CO, Travis AFB, Lackland AFB TX, and many more places. After seperating from the Air Force, I relocated to Venice Beach, CA to enter into the fitness industry and work as an RN.

I believe the new up and coming faces of fitness are beautiful, strong, educated women with grace and character that portray attainable examples of success with a natural physique, a belief in education, and good moral values. A potent combination of beauty, brawn and a little spice!
